Steps to Winning Friends

1. Be genuinely interested in people

Can you think back to a favorite family member, or a friend that you enjoyed being around? Why did you like being around this person? From my experience, those I enjoyed being around most were people who consistently asked me questions about myself. My eyes light up as I described recent books I had read, or recent concerts I had attended. After our conversation, that individual left a great impression and showed that he was an amazing communicator. Why was that? Because he showed genuine interest in my activities and allowed me to talk more about myself than he did about himself. In his book, Dale Carnegie mentioned, “People are not interested in you. They are interested in themselves—morning, noon and after dinner.” So a good friend is one who cares. Remember, people are interested in you when you are interested in them.

2. Learn to Listen

Have you ever interrupted a friend while they were telling a personal story? As humans, we want to be the center of attention. Occasionally, we are more concerned about what we are going to say rather than listening to the person currently talking to us. In this world, there are many people who have the ability to speak well, but I would rather be in a company with those people who have the ability to listen well. Personally, I am trying to improve in this area. One exercise I have used was to waiting 10 seconds after the person had finished talking before I started talking. This allowed me to attentively listen and show that I cared what that person had to say. So don’t forget, everyone can talk, but not everyone can listen.

3. Smile

The most contagious thing is not a disease, but rather a smile (a yawn is the second most contagious). Why does a small act create such a large impact? That is because everyone in the world is seeking happiness, and we would rather spend our time with those who make us happy. A warm heartfelt smile can brighten up anyone’s day. Of course, not everyone is going to respond to a smile, but that doesn’t mean we should stop smiling at people. If you don’t like to smile, then force it, because our actions and feelings go together. So by regulating our actions, we can indirectly regulate our feelings. That pretty much means to fake a smile until you start feeling better, and you will. Because when you smile, your brain creates dopamine and it makes you feel happy. Remember, be happy, think happy, and smile.

4. Remember a person’s name

As I have mentioned before, we constantly think about ourselves. So, it is no surprise that the average person is more interested in his name than anyone else’s name. Have you ever been impressed with someone that used your name before asking you a question just ten minutes after meeting you? Did it make you feel important? Instinctively, I gravitate towards people who know my name. I believe all people feel this way because our name is the sweetest sounding word we can hear. Since birth, we have been programmed to hear our names, and we have placed a high value in its use. Names are important. Take a look back through history. Did you notice that all the rulers did whatever it took to place his name in history? They each built extravagant palaces and tombs just so the world would not forget. So practice on remembering people’s names. A friend of mine had one trick she did where she would say the person’s name in her head 15 times. I have tried this, and it worked great! Remember, a person’s name is music to their ears, so let’s become their friends by first learning their names.

Was the iphone 5 really worth all of the wait ? What is so great about the new one?

One of the first and most obvious differences on the new iphone is the larger screen size. Apple increased the length of their screen but did not increase the width so that all iphone users can still comfortably hold their phone in the palm of their hand.

The second obvious major difference is the back of the iphone. It now has an elegant two-tone color on the back giving it a brushed metal look.
The new iphone is also 18% thinner. This is something that all users can expect considering every time apple comes out with a product it is alwasy “thinner”.

Another major difference is the new A6 processor. This new quad-core processor makes the iphone scream. This beast phone will make all downloads and web surfing seemingly flawless. It even has enough power to potentially run most Xbox 360 games at full speed(if that was possible).
With this new processing power, it could be an open platform for app developers to take their games and all other apps to the next level. With the inclusion of the new LTE chip, the iphone 5 will be able to download apps even faster than the surrounding wifi network that it’s on.

Like many people expected the camera is supposedly better too. It is still an 8 megapixel camera. However, apple says that it has better optic capabilities. There are also some cool new features with the camera such as the new panorama picture option. Iphone users will now be able to take extremely wide panoramic photos on their iphone’s. This gives users the capability to capture even more of their surrounding environment making their pictures more realistic and memorable.

Of course, anything software related is all thanks to the new ios 6.
One of the main updates in ios 6 is the maps. For the first time Apple has a turn by turn navigation using the voice from Siri. For the first time in history a maps feature allows users to see a real 3D city. Google maps has had a realistic feature like this for years. However, this new feature is not realistic it is real. All of the 3D city pictures are real pictures. You can now zoom in-between building and see what the city really looks like and see what surrounds the city.

Apple also finally improved their front facing camera. So now face time conversation is even more realistic. This is not the only new feature for the the actual “phone” part of the iphone.
The iphone 5 now has three microphones making the iphone not only a great phone but also a great device to capture sound in general and maybe even record music pretty decently. Their is also a totally new noise cancellation feature that is located near the top of the phone giving users an even more crystal clear conversation.

These are just a few of the highlights on the new iphone 5. Overall it is a great phone that is definitely worth the $.
